(ALLENTOWN, PA) July 17, 2024 – Preparations are underway for week two of Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom’s Summer Nights celebration and already the event has the community talking.

Allentown native and performer Josie LaTorres says that it’s the first time she can recall a venue like Dorney Park celebrating Caribbean and Latin American culture in a way that is authentic.

“Eastern Pennsylvania has such a large Caribbean and Latin American population,” said LaTorres. “It’s exciting to see our cultures be celebrated, to get that moment in the spotlight. It feels like we’re getting a chance to educate our neighbors and friends. It’s wonderful and humbling.”

LaTorres is joined by countless other Caribbean and Latin American performers, like Zaramaria Fas from Puerto Rico, a dancer and performer for Dorney Park’s Summer Nights, “It’s very authentic. I’ve never seen a theme park do this before,” Fas said. “I feel like every station whether it’s the food, or music, or dancing is very specific to what I’ve grown up with. So eating a pincho with mofongo is just as fulfilling as me dancing with my friends.”

Much of the event’s authenticity can be attributed to Event Director, Luis Salgado. Salgado, who is from Puerto Rico, is a performer, director, choreographer, and producer who has spent significant time on Broadway and in the film industry.

“It’s a beautiful mix of cultures and it’s great to see these communities work together, getting them to see each other,” said Salgado. “I think there’s a big sense of validation for the artists and the people who walk through the gate at Dorney Park.”

Guests have also expressed satisfaction with the event’s authenticity. Many have enjoyed using their dining plans to grab a few of the traditional Caribbean and Latin American dishes including bacalaitos, empanadillas de picadillo, and jerk chicken wings. Latin-themed cocktails and Latin-based regional beers have also been a hit.

Kids can join in the fun with activities like kid-sized steel drums and a giant color-by-number mural or they could win island-themed prizes at many of the fun games.

The epic celebration of summer fun takes place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday every week until August 18th. Guests are encouraged to purchase a season pass to enjoy free parking and unlimited visits.
