Lehigh Valley, Pa. (May 6, 2024) – At the Renaissance Hotel on April 20, Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) hosted the fifth annual Champions Gala, benefiting Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute. Nearly 230 guests and 35 sponsors gathered to celebrate cancer survivors, caregivers, and the latest advancements in cancer care and treatment. The 2024 honorees were: Jill Korn, RN, Caregiver Champion; Phil Davis, Survivor Champion; and Tom and Karin Hall, Community Impact Champions. Together the gala’s sponsors and guests raised nearly $300,000 to support Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute.
Proceeds raised will go toward non-clinical expenses and expand access to mental health counseling for cancer patients by covering costs that insurance does not cover and making counseling services free of charge. These critical resources can make a huge different in the lives of patients and their families. Brian A. Nester, DO, MBA, LVHN President and Chief Executive Officer, thanked everyone for their support, giving special recognition to Haldeman Lincoln as the title sponsor and Joe and Maureen Topper as the honorary chairs.
Suresh Nair, MD, Physician in Chief, Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute, spoke to the important role of philanthropy. “Your generosity allows us to provide state-of-the-art cancer care to our loved ones, friends and neighbors close to their homes.” He also shared exciting updates about the Tom and Karin Hall Center for Infusion and Cellular Therapies and the Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program, which the Halls’ gift made possible.
During the awards ceremony, Tom and Karin Hall were recognized as the 2024 Community Impact Champions.
Phil Davis was honored as the Survivor Champion.
Jill Korn, RN, was honored as this year’s Caregiver Champion. In the printed program, more cancer survivors were celebrated, sharing their incredible stories.
