9th Annual Coat Drive to be Held Outside PPL Center During Black Friday Game Against Providence
November 14, 2023 Lehigh Valley, PA – The Lehigh Valley Phantoms and founding partner WFMZ-69 are excited to announce the return of the annual Coat Drive to PPL Center on Friday, November 24, as the Phantoms host the Providence Bruins at 7:05 p.m.
This marks the 9th season in which the Phantoms and WFMZ have come together for the cause, which collected nearly 1,200 donations last year alone.
“A winter jacket is a given for many people, but not for everyone. That’s why we team up the Lehigh Valley Phantoms to help make sure all of our neighbors can stay warm this winter,” wrote a WFMZ spokesperson in a release last week. “Any donation is appreciated— whether you clean out your closet, or take advantage of some of the Black Friday sales to buy new coats for the drive.”
Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used winter coats to PPL Center to donate in support of local Salvation Army programs including Salvation Army Foster Care and Adoption Services, as well as S.T.A.R. Bethlehem, which aids homeless people in the area.
Drop boxes will be set up inside PPL Center on game day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on November 24 and WFMZ volunteers will be collecting jackets and helping unload cars outside at the corner of 7th and Hamilton Street from 5-7 p.m. Additionally, fans will have the option of donating their jackets from their cars via a drive-thru drop-off lane located on Hamilton Street during the hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Donate your coats, chat with members of the Channel 69 News, meet meLVin, and stay for the game as the first 5,000 fans in attendance will also take home a Phantoms ball cap presented by Service Electric Television.
For those unable to attend the Black Friday contest, donation drop boxes are also available now through November 24 at Steel Ice Center in Bethlehem, home of the Phantoms Youth hockey program.
