Northampton County Executive Lamont G. McClure and the County’s Veterans Affairs Division encourage residents to remember the importance of Veterans Day.
World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” – officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, at the Palace of Versailles in France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Every year, November 11th is a time to pause and reflect on those who have died in our nation’s wars and is a reminder to honor, respect, and remember the men and women who have served this incredible country and made the ultimate sacrifice.
The Northampton County Veteran’s Affairs is providing a list of scheduled events to honor local Veterans and all those serving our country and help keep the memory of our fallen military service members alive.
