Bethlehem, PA, November 1, 2023 – ArtsQuest’s Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas are bringing Christmas classics to the big screen with the Christmas Classic Matinees and Holiday Quote-Along Series running throughout the month of December!
The Holiday Quote-Along Series
The Holiday Quote-Along Series has another great lineup of some of the most quotable and memorable holiday films! These movies run from Wednesday, Dec. 6 through Thursday, Dec. 21. All showtimes will be at 7:30 p.m. No shushers allowed!
Kicking off the series on Wednesday, Dec 6, is Elf celebrating its 20th Anniversary. After accidentally falling into Santa Claus’ gift sack, a human baby is raised at the North Pole, growing up to believe he is an elf. Due to his large size, the “elf” causes chaos in Santa’s workshop, forcing Kris Kringle to send him on a mission to find his human roots. This film is rated PG.
On Wednesday, Dec. 13, Gremlins the 1984 film will be playing! This comic Joe Dante effort is set in a Norman Rockwell-esque small town at Christmastime. Seeking a unique gift for his son, an erstwhile inventor purchases a cute, fuzzy little “Mogwai” from a Chinatown shopkeeper’s grandson. The town is invaded by nasty, predatory Gremlins, who lie to waste everything in sight. This film is PG.
On Wednesday, Dec. 20 and Thursday, Dec. 21, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation hits the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas! As the holidays approach, Clark Griswold wants to have a perfect family Christmas, so he pesters his wife, Ellen, and their children, as he tries to make sure everything is in line. However, things go awry quickly. This film is rated PG-13.
The Christmas Classic Matinee Series
The Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas will be presenting four enchanted Christmas Classics that demand the big screen treatment in the Christmas Classic Matinee Series. All showtimes are at 12 p.m.
On Thursday, Nov. 30 through Saturday, Dec. 2, White Christmas will be playing as part of this series. A 1954 holiday classic, this film is about two talented song-and-dance men who team up after war to become one of the hottest acts in show business. One winter they join forces with a sister act and trek to Vermont for a white Christmas. This film is not rated.
Following White Christmas, The Bishop’s Wife will be playing at the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas on Thursday, Dec. 7 through Friday, Dec. 8. Heavenly bells are ringing, jubilant choirs are singing, and Christmas joy is blanketing the world like freshly fallen snow. But the Yuletide spirit has yet to warm Bishop Henry Brougham’s Victorian home. Struggling with raising funds for a new cathedral and neglecting his loving wife, an angel is sent from above to Henry. This film is not rated.
Meet Me in St. Louis will be the third movie in the series playing on Dec. 14 through the 16. Directed by Vincente Minnelli and starring Judy Garland and Margaret O’Brien, this heartwarming tale of the emotional trauma of the colorful members of an early 20th Century St. Louis family experiences when they learn their father has been transferred and they will have to move to New York. This film is not rated.
Closing out the Christmas Classic Matinee Series is the beloved film, It’s a Wonderful Life, plays at the cinemas on Thursday, Dec. 21 through Saturday, Dec. 23. Directed in 1946 by Frank Capra, the film is set in a small town and is about George Bailey. A man whose life seems so desperate he contemplates suicide. He has always wanted to leave the small town of Bedford Falls to see the world. As he prepares to jump, his guardian angel intercedes, showing him what life would have become of the residents of Bedford Falls if he had never lived. This film is rated PG.
Tickets for the cinemas are $10 for the general public, $8 for ages 25 and under & seniors and $7.50 for ArtsQuest Members and Circle Donors.
