BETHLEHEM (DEC 23, 2022) – State Senator Lisa M. Boscola announced today that the Lehigh Valley Workforce Investment Board was a awarded a $183,333 grant for its Lehigh Valley Apprenticeship Consortium-Industrial Training and Education Consortium (iTEC) by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.

“Apprenticeship programs play a critical role in meeting the demand of Lehigh Valley employers for meeting the needs of a skilled workforce for the 21^st century economy,” Senator Boscola stated.  “The Lehigh Valley Apprentice Consortium will provide apprenticeship programs throughout our region to allow for pathways for job seekers to enter into future job opportunities with high-growth career outcomes.”

This funding will allow the Lehigh Valley Workforce Investment Board to create and sustain a multi-employer registered apprenticeship model known as the Lehigh Valley Apprenticeship Consortium – Industrial Training and Education Consortium (iTEC).  The Consortium will provide alternate career pathways for job seekers, students, and the community while targeting underrepresented individuals. This project will also allow regional educators and industries to offer apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs for high-growth career outcomes.

The Department of Labor & Industry announced grant awards totaling $1.8 million for 9 local workforce development boards from funding received through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Apprenticeship Building America initiative to further expand Pennsylvania’s network of registered apprenticeship programs.
