CHILD PASSENGER SEAT SAFETY CHECK

The Allentown Health Bureau is marking Child Passenger Safety Week with a with a safety seat check event on Thursday, September 17.

The Health Bureau; in conjunction with the Allentown Bethlehem Easton Safe Kids Coalition, including Lehigh Valley Health Network and other partner agencies; will be at the Cedar Beach Playground parking lot between Hamilton Blvd & Linden Street (Parkway Blvd) on Ott Street tomorrow from 10am to 1pm. Certified Car Seat Technicians will be present to check car seats to ensure they are properly installed and that they are appropriate for the child using them. Appointments can be made by calling 610-402-CARE or individuals can just stop by between the hours of 10am and 1pm to have their seat checked and/or questions answered.

Child safety seats reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71% for infants and by 54% for toddlers.  Most parents are confident that they have correctly installed their child’s car seat, but in most cases (59%) the seat has not been installed correctly.  Incorrect installation of a car seat can expose a child passenger to the risk of injury or death in a crash.

The Allentown Health Bureau can answer questions concerning car seat safety, Pennsylvania law concerning car seats, or your car seat specifically.  Call the Allentown Health Bureau’s Injury Prevention Program at 610-437-7598 or email them at injuryprevention@allentownpa.gov.

Child Passenger Safety Week runs through Saturday, September 19.
