The City of Allentown Department of Parks & Recreation in partnership with Friends of the Allentown Parks is hosting an army of volunteers to conduct cleanup activities in 33 city parks and public spaces on Sunday, April 29 as part of Faith Church’s #LoveLehighValley initiative.
More than 3,000 persons participated in the event last year, up from 1,700 in 2016.
The Department of Parks and Recreation maintains 2,000+ acres of parkland in 43 parks, with 35 miles of trails. Volunteer projects assist with this monumental task to keep Allentown’s parks looking beautiful.
“The Friends of the Allentown Parks are an extremely valuable organization,” said Mayor Ray O’Connell. “They have amassed an amazing number of volunteers that will be working in parks in every section of the city. I can’t thank them enough.”
“Maintaining our parks to the highest level is our top priority,” said Department of Parks & Recreation Director Lindsay L. Taylor. “Volunteer cleanup projects allow the Parks staff to focus more time and energy on park renovations and improvements. We are most fortunate to have a dedicated group in Friends of the Allentown Parks who actively engage thousands of folks from the community to help us keep the city’s park system in tip top shape.”
