Cedarbrook Resident Celebrates Her 106th Birthday

Michalena Fiorello Turns 106 Surrounded by Friends and Family

(Allentown, PA)- On February 26th, Michalena Fiorello celebrated her 106th year of life at the Cedarbrook Allentown Nursing Home surrounded by her friends and family.

Michalena was born February 26th, 1912 and lived an active and storied life.  Her family frequently refers to her as a woman ahead of her time.  She owned her own resort in the Poconos called “The Plateau” where she cooked in her restaurant.

She also worked at Hess Brothers for several years as a buyer until the store’s closing.  Michalena, never one to let age slow her, would be found on ladders cleaning windows and cabinets well into her nineties according to her family.

She was joined by her niece, Joan Elmayan and her husband, Arpiar Elmayan.  Her brother who is 97, still resides in New York with his wife.

“Being here today at Cedarbrook to celebrate my Aunt Lena’s 106th birthday is a wonderfully surreal and heartwarming experience which I will never forget. I remember the many family members she nurtured, and positively influenced.  My father was one such person. She is my role model and is so loved by our family.  I am also most grateful to the Cedarbrook Nursing home for the wonderful care they have provided my aunt over these past seven years. Without their patience and attention, we would probably not be here today to celebrate this momentous occasion,” said Joan.

Michalena was presented with proclamations from the County of Lehigh, City of Allentown as well as the Governor’s Office.

“I want to congratulate Michalena and her family on this joyous occasion and extend my warmest wishes to her and her family.  She has lived an incredible life.  I also want to commend the staff of Cedarbrook for their exemplary care. The longevity of its residents is a testament to the quality of care provided,” said Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong.

Cedarbrook currently has 670 beds across two campuses, and is preparing to undergo extensive renovations that will further enhance Lehigh County’s capacity to provide high quality care and maintain a five-star rating.
