BETHLEHEM, Pa. (May 23, 2016) – Progressive Waste Solutions’ IESI Bethlehem Landfill has donated $4,000 to the Lower Saucon Township Police Department for the purchase of two ballistic shields, which are designed to protect police from firearms and other threats.
“Thank you to Bethlehem Landfill, who provided the funds to purchase additional ballistic shields, allowing us to equip each of our patrol vehicles with one,” said Sergeant Tom Barndt of the Lower Saucon Township Police Department. “We have had ballistic shields in many of our patrol vehicles for years and it is better to be prepared and not need them, than to be in a situation in which we wish we had them, and did not. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our equipment and capabilities across all areas of law enforcement.”
The vacuum-formed ProTech Tactical Intruder shields are manufactured with advanced composite, high-performance polyethylene fiber. They feature LED-lighting, an arched viewport for optimal peripheral vision and a curved form designed to add protection against angled shots.
“We are honored to support the Lower Saucon Police Department, particularly with a tool that can potentially save lives,” said Allen Schleyer, Bethlehem Landfill District Manager. “Officers routinely put themselves in harm’s way to keep us safe, and they deserve to be equipped with the very best means to do so.”
