Bethlehem Becomes Home to New Families:
Habitat for Humanity of the Lehigh Valley dedicates 139th and 140th homes for local families on Philip Street

Bethlehem, PA | Thursday, February 27th, 2025 – leading affordable housing organization Habitat for Humanity of the Lehigh Valley is dedicating their 139th and 140th home for two hardworking families this week. Thursday is the culmination of many months of construction, sweat equity hours, and sacrifice. These two homes are now the foundational building block for two families seeking the stability of homeownership.

Habitat Lehigh Valley’s most recent new construction project began with excavation and site development in the winter of 2022 in the 1400 block of Philip Street on the south side of Bethlehem. Over the course of the past two years, construction continued on Philip Street with Habitat Lehigh Valley future homeowners, CORE volunteers, TeamBuilders, sponsors, and many local community members – all committed to helping build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.

The Philip Street project consists of two twin homes – 4 units – each fit with 2 full baths and 4 bedrooms to accommodate Habitat Lehigh Valley’s largest homeowner families to date. The first set of homes to be dedicated on Thursday night, 1443 and 1447 Philip Street, are now home to a mother, father, and their children, as well as another mother and her children.

Founded in 1989, Habitat Lehigh Valley has now dedicated 140 homes with a 99% retention rate and a 4/4 star rating on Charity Navigator. As an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, Habitat Lehigh Valley is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization that builds strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter and believes in a world where everyone deserves a decent place to live.

Habitat Lehigh Valley is thrilled to add to their stock of affordable housing that not only serves local, hardworking, low to moderate income families, but also adds and invigorates the local community.
