LEARN INSTRUMENT CRAFTSMANSHIP SKILLS AT NCC FAB LAB



BETHLEHEM, PA – Northampton Community College (NCC) will present an array of hands-on opportunities this summer at the Fowler Family Southside Center in Bethlehem.

The Tenor Ukulele workshop will combine participants’ passions for music and craftsmanship by teaching them to construct their very own tenor ukuleles. From May 6-29, NCC will offer an immersive journey into woodworking, including the art of selecting premium woods, shaping them with precision, and expertly assembling an instrument. Led by experienced instructors, NCC will offer Monday and Wednesday evening sessions from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The workshop fee is $460. Learn more and register at https://www.fablabncc.net/. Next, participants can elevate their woodworking skills and build their own Parlor Guitar with NCC’s Acoustic Guitar Building workshop. Led by a skilled instructor, this class allows participants to craft their own 12-Fret Parlor body masterpiece from exquisite mahogany and Sitka spruce, dive into discussions on tonal nuances, and advance their hand tool skills. Lastly, NCC will offer two Intensive Acoustic Guitar Build classes this summer: June 3-7 and June 17-21. The classes will run Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants will experience every aspect of the guitar building process and learn the fundamentals of guitar construction, from bending the sides to bracing the top and back, building the body, crafting components like the nut, saddle, and fingerboard from raw blanks, dressing the frets, setting the neck, and preparing for the finish. The class will equip those considering a career as a Luthier, as well as those interested in instrument building as a hobby, with essential skills and knowledge.
