County Executive Lamont G. McClure and the Northampton County Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED) announced today that Northampton County created a free Access Device and Giveaway Program for County organizations.
This new giveaway program was announced on the first day of a two-day Digital Navigator Training at Northampton Community College. “We are refurbishing old county-owned laptops in order to donate to public-facing employees in Northampton County, such as healthcare workers, schools, municipalities, and nonprofits. Our goal is a path to digital equity and ensuring every county resident has sufficient access to the internet,” says Executive Lamont McClure.
Northampton County is partnering with the National Inclusion Alliance for this week’s training to teach Digital Navigators:
- How to pair community members with appropriate devices and locate local free and low-cost options
- What resources are available for self-guided digital skills, and how to use resources to teach one-on-one or to small groups
- How a digital navigator program conducts its work, including data collection and client management
- How to identify internet options for low-income community members
If your organization would like to sign up to receive a refurbished device, please contact the Northampton County Department of Community & Economic Development at (610) 829-6306.
