The burn prevention organization serving Pennsylvania welcomes two new members to its board.
Allentown, PA (May 31, 2023) – Burn Prevention Network (BPN), a Lehigh Valley-based nonprofit dedicated to reducing the risk of burns and empowering burn survivors, has appointed two new members to its board of directors. Those joining the board are Luis Puentes, president of Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) – Hecktown Oaks campus, and Rafael de la Hoz, insurance agent at State Farm.
Puentes discovered BPN as an emergency room nurse at LVHN – Cedar Crest over 20 years ago.
He has experience working with and caring for burn victims and has seen firsthand the life-altering changes these injuries can cause to victims and their families. As his career progressed, he gained an appreciation for and understanding of BPN’s work in prevention,
education, and care for the community. He knew he wanted to get involved after attending the Spirit of Courage gala, where he was moved by the work of the BPN team and how they achieve their mission through strong partnership with healthcare and fire service partners. As a new board member, he hopes to add valuable input from a leadership perspective.
De la Hoz first learned of BPN when a fellow State Farm agent discussed the nonprofit during a team meeting and asked him to help distribute pamphlets about the organization. When the same agent retired, he asked someone from their team to join the BPN board of directors and take over his role. The pamphlets left a lasting impression on de la Hoz, which moved him to join the board. As a new member, he is excited to continue learning about BPN’s important services and understand where he can best serve the board and make an impact on the nonprofit.
“Burn Prevention Network is excited to welcome Rafael and Luis to the board of directors,” says Corissa Rolón, CEO and executive director of BPN. “As an organization, we prioritize having a wide array of professional input from our board of directors. I’m excited to learn from Rafael and Luis’s unique perspectives that will help further our mission of education, prevention, and care.”
