BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Continuing to spread holiday cheer, another Musikfest 2023 headliner announcement is here! ArtsQuest with media partner B104 are excited to announce that multi-platinum hit makers AJR will bring their one-of-a-kind musical style to the Wind Creek Steel Stage Friday, Aug. 4. Member ticket access begins Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 10 a.m., with remaining tickets on sale to the public at musikfest.org beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16. Re-envisioning what pop can be in the 21st century, AJR unassumingly emerged as a ubiquitous hit-making outlier and one of the biggest indie bands in the world. Since 2012, the multiplatinum indie-pop Metzger brother trio — Adam (bass, vocals), Jack (vocals, guitar) and Ryan (ukulele, piano, vocals) — have generated billions of streams, topped the Billboard, Alternative and Rock charts all while earning multi-platinum status.
Cemented as part of the modern zeitgeist, Spotify dubbed the trio’s hit “Sober Up” featuring Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo among the “Best Rock Songs of the 2010s,” while Apple Music included “Weak” on its “Best Alt Songs of the 2010s.” To this day AJR remains one of the “500 Most-Listened to Artists” on Spotify.
On the heels of 2019’s Neotheater, they dropped the 2020 platinum blockbuster single “BANG!” performing the smash hit on TODAY, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and even at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Now, the band open their world like never before on their fourth full-length album, “OK ORCHESTRA” featuring the singles “Way Less Sad,” “Bummerland” and “My Play.”
A record-breaking 1,240,000 people attended Musikfest in 2022. The 11-day festival featured over 500 free performances, across 16 stages located throughout the City of Bethlehem. The 40th Musikfest is scheduled for Aug. 4 – 13, 2023. This year’s Musikfest 2023 poster artist is Allentown-based family Maltas Con Leche. Previously announced headline shows include Goo Goo Dolls on Wed. Aug. 9., and Country duo Dan + Shay on Sun. Aug. 6. Visit musikfest.org for more information.
