ALLENTOWN, PA – In response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center issues the following statement:
“All people deserve access to the healthcare that their bodies need. Reproductive rights are LGBTQ+ rights, and abortion impacts more than just women. This affects all of us. Queer, nonbinary, and transmasculine community members all depend on reproductive care.
The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision undermines the health and safety of LGBTQ+ people, and while Pennsylvania currently safeguards reproductive rights, the future is dangerously unclear. We thank Governor Tom Wolf for his vocal and steadfast support of LGBTQ+ and reproductive rights, but we are increasingly mindful that the commonwealth will have new leadership in a matter of months.
Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center serves more than just the Lehigh Valley. Our community extends into states where abortion will now be either illegal or strongly restricted. We know this decision disproportionately affects BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) community members, as well as other marginalized people who already face barriers to healthcare.
While there has been much to celebrate during Pride Month, we continue to see harmful legislation attacking LGBTQ+ rights and freedoms here in Pennsylvania and across the country. In this moment, we are furious but determined to guide our community to find safe and affirming places to find reproductive care. We encourage our community to raise their voices – in the streets, online, and at the polls. Our work is far from over, and we remain committed to advocating for our community to the fullest extent.”
