The Allentown Bureau of Recycling and Solid Waste is announcing its Christmas and New Year’s holiday trash and recycling collection schedule for the city.
Christmas Eve night, Friday, December 24 – trash and recycling collections are cancelled.
- Next trash collection will be on Tuesday night, December 28. Ten bags of trash allowed.
- For this week only: Friday night recyclers should place their recycling bins out on Tuesday night, December 28. If not collected by 12 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29, please leave at the curb to be collected Wednesday night.
New Year’s Eve night, Friday, December 31 – trash and recycling collections are cancelled.
- Next trash collection will be on Tuesday night, January 4. Ten bags of trash will be allowed.
- Friday night recyclers only: regular recycling collection will resume Friday night, January 7.
Please remember to recycle cardboard boxes and all types of paper. Examples of these are wrapping paper, tissue paper, gifts bags and boxes, greeting cards and envelopes (no glitter or embellishments), and cardboard boxes. No foam peanuts or packaging, plastic bags or trash are allowed inside of the cardboard boxes. Ribbons, bows and metallic paper cannot be recycled and should be put in the trash.
Christmas trees and other yard waste will be collected on your recycling night the weeks of Sunday, January 9 and Sunday, January 16. All decorations, plastic bags, and tree stands must be removed prior to putting out the tree for collection. No flocked, spray painted, or artificial trees will be accepted – please contact the Bureau of Recycling for disposal options. During these two weeks, residents may also place other yard waste at the curb for collection in their yard waste containers, bundled and tied, or in paper yard waste bags. The collection will be weather dependent.
The city’s Yard Waste Site at 1401 Oxford Drive will be open for yard waste drop-off to city of Allentown residents only on Saturday, January 8, Saturday, February 5 and Saturday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. weather permitting.
