BETHLEHEM, PA—Patty Smyth & Scandal, jazz vocalist Cyrille Aimee and Allman Brothers Band tribute Live at the Fillmore are among the eight new performances announced for the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks. Tickets for the performances go on sale Tues., Feb. 19, 10 a.m., to ArtsQuest Members and Fri., Feb. 22, 10 a.m., to the public at www.steelstacks.org and 610-332-3378.
Patty Smyth & Scandal will rock the Musikfest Café presented by Yuengling April 26, 7:30 p.m.
In 1982, Smyth burst onto the scene with Scandal’s self-titled debut that turned out to be the best-selling EP in Columbia Records history and also featured the hit single, “Goodbye to You.” The group’s first full-length album, “The Warrior,” released in 1984, climbed into the Top 20 on the sales chart, eventually earning RIAA-certified platinum status, with more than a million in sales.
Breaking out into a solo career in the ‘90s, Smyth’s “Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough” – a song she wrote and featuring a performance by Don Henley – became her biggest hit ever, reaching #2 on Billboard’s Hot 100. She later co-wrote and performed the Oscar, Golden Globe and GRAMMY-nominated “Look What Love Has Done” theme from the film “Junior.” Spurred by an impromptu reunion with her former bandmates at the end of 2004 on VH1’s “Bands Reunited,” Scandal regrouped, with original members Keith Mack and Benjy King and a new rhythm section including bassist Tom Welsch and drummer Eran Asias. On March 29, 7:30 p.m., Cyrille Aimee takes the stage at the Musikfest Café. An acclaimed vocalist, Aimee has gone from singing on street corners in Europe to dazzling audiences at the world’s most prestigious jazz festivals; from sneaking out to sing in gypsy encampments in her native France to acting on Broadway; from braving the notoriously tough audiences at New York’s Apollo Theatre to being called a “rising star in the galaxy of jazz singers” by the New York Times.
Among countless accolades, Aimée won the Montreux Jazz Festival Vocal Competition and the Sarah Vaughn International Jazz Vocal Competition. As an actress, she co-starred with Bernadette Peters in a Stephen Sondheim tribute at New York’s City Center. This has inspired her into digging deeper in the Sondheim repertoire for her most recent album, “Move On: A Sondheim Adventure,” featuring classics like “Take Me To The World,” “When I Get Famous,” “Loving You,” “One More Kiss” and more. Tickets for her show are $20-$25.
On May 4, 7:30 p.m., the Musikfest Café welcomes Live at the Fillmore. Hailed as the ultimate Allman Brothers Band tribute, Live at the Fillmore celebrates the original band’s legendary performances at New York’s Fillmore East Auditorium, often referred to as the ‘church of rock ‘n’ roll.’
Live at the Fillmore is a continuation of founder Lou Maresca’s devotion to performing faithful renditions of indelible hits like “Midnight Rider,” “Whipping Post” and “Ramblin’ Man.” Great attention is paid to recreating the music with an unparalleled degree of authenticity, and for that, the band has been chosen as a featured performer for Time Life Southern Rock Cruise and received rave reviews for its performance on AXS TV’s “World’s Greatest Tribute Bands.” Tickets for the show are $20-$25.
