KidsPeace Named Preceptor of the Year by DeSales University Program

SCHNECKSVILLE, PA (April 23, 2018) – KidsPeace has been named the 2018 Preceptor of the Year by DeSales University’s Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program. The recognition honors an organization for outstanding commitment to the students in the program.

As a preceptor, KidsPeace provides opportunities for student rotations and mentorships with its medical staff at its Berks Campus, the KidsPeace Children’s Hospital or in its Pennsylvania residential treatment program on the Orchard Hills Campus in Orefield, PA.  Over the past year, 14 of the 17 students in the DeSales program had clinical experiences at KidsPeace – more than any other clinical site.

“At KidsPeace, our students are welcomed, respected and treated like professionals from the very beginning,” said Dr. Renee Koval, assistant professor in DeSales’ Department of Nursing and Health and the coordinator of its Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program.  “KidsPeace staff were able to accommodate some students at the last minute without any disruption of their experience, and all of the students who did rotations at KidsPeace speak very highly of the organization and its staff,” she added.

Dr. Koval noted that her program’s connection with KidsPeace has led to one recent graduate joining its staff, while at least one current student has expressed interest in doing so after they graduate.

“KidsPeace is honored to have been recognized in this way by our partners at DeSales University.  We are pleased to be part of the education for new nurse practitioners training in the behavioral health field,” said Diane Huntoon, director of physician services at KidsPeace.

For more than 135 years, KidsPeace has been building on its expertise to give hope, help and healing to children, families and communities throughout the United States. Through its comprehensive range of residential treatment programs; accredited educational services; unique psychiatric hospital and foster care and community-based programs, KidsPeace is dedicated to helping people connect, transform and overcome their challenges to ensure a stable future, transition to adulthood and gain independence. Since its doors opened in 1882, more than 200,000 children have participated in one of the multitude of programs KidsPeace offers.
