Skindustry Tattoo Expo
Friday March 9, 2018 – Sunday March 11, 2018
March 9, 2018. “It was a good day” (note: one of the tattoo artists had drawn Ice Cube and turned the drawings into pins, and yes they were incredible) to go and meet and hang out with some incredibly talented artist. The Skidustry Tattoo Expo held at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center went from 2:00pm to 11pm. The Sands was organized, and as usual, the staff working the event was kind, courteous and helpful. It was a packed event but not over-crowded, and people were coming in at a steady pace. The Sands had everything set up nicely for the vendors/artists.
As you entered you saw the stand for every type of supplies needed for tattooing. Then you walk into the event center area which has seen rock legends, musicians and more. Today it was filled with talented tattoo artist and one woman who has done some of the most incredible Henna work. Many of the tattoo artists were tattooing, sketching work and talking to potential customers. The crowd was steady all day, as the Sands was packed with people.
Tattoo artist took time to talk with everyone. People were asking questions, and the artist explaining the technique. I walked around and talked to everyone. Each artist was inviting and showed you some of the work they did. There were a lot of artists who were in the midst of tattooing someone. People were eagerly waiting to be tattooed. There was a comradery among all of these talented individuals. It was fascinating to see all of the work. I also stopped and interviewed a few of the artist. I stopped at Catherine Lent’s Henna table and spoke to her and her daughter Sam. I signed up and had a small Henna moon done on my hand. Her line was consistent as I walked around.
People flocked to the Sick Ink table, as they had what appeared to be a double booth. All the artists quickly chimed in about what they have planned to accomplish during the weekend. Karin of Amaryllis Tattoo spoke with me for a few minutes as her stand was calming, peaceful and full of serenity. It reminded you of walking into a garden or a spa. They had it set-up beautifully.
A lot of the tattoo artists had pins and stickers with work featured that they were giving away. The ArtsQuest booth was set-up, and they had the wheel to spin and a contest for people to win Musikfest Tickets (I entered and picked Joan Jett and Styx and spun the wheel and won an awesome Musikfest pin) each person was doing what they were meant to do. It takes skills to tattoo a person in a crowded venue too. The people who were being tattooed during the show all seemed okay with the crowds and were also happy to talk about the tattoos they choose and why.
The set-up was nice. The artists also occupied the stage and surrounding areas so if you don’t want to miss anyone you had to head up the steps where they also had tattoo artist. Don’t forget everyone from Slash to Rob Base to Magical magicians and Evanescence has graced that stage. It was also cool because you get an overall view of the entire SKINDUSTRY show. This expo was efficient, done well and it was nice to be among the hustle and bustle of the crowd at The Sands Bethlehem Event Center.
