Bethlehem, PA, March 1, 2018 – United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley’s (UWGLV) affinity group, Emerging Leaders, celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday and National Read Across America Week with kindergarten, first-grade and second-grade students at Fountain Hill Elementary School. UWGLV seeks to improve grade-level reading in our local community and is grateful for the support given by the volunteers from companies including PPL, Just Born, Wells Fargo and ASR Media Productions.
Emerging Leader volunteers celebrated with the local students by reading their favorite Dr. Seuss books and taking photos together in Dr. Seuss-themed hats and shirts.
“United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley strives to increase the number of third-grade students reading at grade level by 50 percent by 2022,” said Marcy McKinney, the manager of donor engagement and affinity groups. “United Way Community Schools is the driving strategy to achieve this bold goal.”
Fountain Hill Elementary School is a United Way Community School and, along with thousands of schools and libraries nationwide, participated in National Read Across America Week to spread and celebrate the importance of reading.
