ALLENTOWN OFFERING IMMIGRATION INFORMATION DAY
Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski is inviting city residents with questions about immigration services to an Information Day on Wednesday, September 13 from 4pm-8pm at Alliance Hall at 245 N. 6th Street.
Pawlowski established a Mayor’s Office of Immigration Services last winter to connect people to help on a multitude of immigration issues. “I continue to be approached by folks who are fearful about new immigration policies coming out of Washington and don’t know where to turn for assistance. Wednesday is an opportunity to speak to attorneys with issues about citizenship, naturalization, Green cards, passport and translation services,” Pawlowski said.
Bilingual attorneys are volunteering their time for the session along with para-legal staff and translators.
Pawlowski is establishing a cultural community center at Alliance Hall. Renovations to the space are underway. Once renovations are completed, persons with immigration issues will be able to schedule meetings with attorneys that specialize in immigration issues either in their offices or at Alliance Hall. Persons with questions on immigration can get basic questions answered from attorneys offering pro bono services.
The Jamaican Cultural Organization, Liberian Community Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania, PuertoRican Cultural Preservation Inc., Interlace Cultural y Desarrollo Integral Mexicano, Dominican Cultural Organization, Indian American Association of the Lehigh Valley and Kenyan Community in the North East are moving into space at Alliance Hall vacated by the relocation of the Lehigh Conference of Churches.
More information can be obtained by calling the Mayor’s Office of Immigration Services at 610-437-7773 or at www.allentownpa.gov/immigration.
