Mirah to Headline ACLU Benefit Concert in Bethlehem

(Bethlehem, PA)– Brooklyn-based indie pop musician Mirah (K Records) will headline a benefit concert for the Greater Lehigh Valley Chapter of the ACLU at the Bethlehem Area Public Library on Friday, February 24, 2017. The show, which is part of Tape Swap Radio’s concert series in the Lehigh Valley, is being billed as “Library After Hours” and will be just the second music concert to take place in the newly renovated first-floor of the Bethlehem Library.

Mirah Yom Tov Zeitlyn, who performs as Mirah, has toured extensively throughout the US and Japan since her beginnings in Olympia, Washington in the late 1990’s. Her experimental pop style and endearing songwriting has garnered praise from publications like the New York Times, Pitchfork, NPR, and UK’s The Guardian throughout her career. The “Library After Hours” concert will be Mirah’s first performance in the Lehigh Valley.

“I did play a show in Scranton once about 15 years ago, but this show will be my first in the Lehigh Valley.” Mirah said from her home in Brooklyn. “I am very excited!”

Concert organizer and Tape Swap Radio founder, Shamus McGroggan, credits a growing underground music scene which is attracting artists like Mirah. “There is something really special, really magnetic about the Lehigh Valley right now. We’re fostering a music community that works for the artists and helps support sustainable community organizations at the same time.”

Also performing at the show will be fellow Brooklyn indie pop artist Kid in the Attic and Delaware Water Gap indie folk band, Lewis & Clarke. The show represents the first collaboration between the Bethlehem Area Public Library and Tape Swap Radio. Bethlehem Library Executive Director Josh Berk is excited to keep the library open between 7 and 10 PM for the show.

“Like many libraries we view our role as not just repositories of knowledge, but vibrant public spaces that celebrate community and support the arts,” said Berk. “I’m particularly thrilled to work with Tape Swap Radio as I have long admired the work they do in bringing in great bands to town and supporting the local independent music scene. It’s going to be a noisy night at the library and I couldn’t be happier!”

Tape Swap Radio is an original live music series which, in addition to hosting its concert series, produces a radio program that airs on WDIY 88.1 FM, Lehigh Valley’s community NPR station. Since 2015, Tape Swap Radio’s concert series has raised $5,442 for Lehigh Valley organizations and community programs like The Center for Animal Health & Wellness in Easton, The Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center in Allentown, and the Homebase Skateshop After-School Skate Program in Bethlehem.
