Featured at Lehigh Valley Comic Convention this Weekend
BETHLEHEM, PA (June 3, 2026)--Scott Beatty, a faculty member in the Literary Arts Department at Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts (Charter Arts), is an acclaimed author and comic book writer known for his work on DC Comics characters including Batman, Robin, Batgirl, and Nightwing.
A self-described “superhero historian,” Beatty has authored numerous encyclopedic guides and currently teaches Creative Writing at Charter Arts.
For the past three years, Beatty has integrated a month-long unit on the history of comic books and graphic novels into the school’s Contemporary and Unconventional Literature curriculum. The unit culminates in a hands-on writer’s room workshop, where seniors reimagine a bygone or forgotten comic book character and plot a four-issue miniseries to introduce their concept to the world. Students also study comic book writing from pitch to publishing, exploring scripting, sequential storytelling, and the parallels between comics and film.
This weekend, Beatty will appear at the Lehigh Valley Comic Convention, held at the Allentown Fairgrounds Agri-Plex Expo Center, June 6 & 7, 2026. This is LVCC’s 25th anniversary show.
Beatty shares: “I’m thrilled to be part of the convention again this year. Comic books are such an incredible way to explore character, storytelling, and imagination, and I love sharing that with others. It’s equally rewarding to see the students at Charter Arts take these lessons and create their own worlds. They’re developing skills in writing, plotting, and visual storytelling that could lead to the next generation of comic book and graphic novel creators.”
Some of Beatty’s most recent publications include:
- The DC Encyclopedia – A 2026 update of the original DC Comics Encyclopedia Beatty co-wrote in the early 2000s. In stores now.
- Nightwing: A Knight in Bludhaven Compendium Three – Includes Beatty’s Joker: Last Laugh DC Comics company-wide crossover event from 2005 in its entirety. In stores now.
- Robin: Year One – New Trade Paperback edition releasing on June 30, 2026. First published in 2001.
- Nightwing: Year One – New Trade Paperback edition releasing in November 2026. First published in 2005.
