WHAT: Bi-county Lehigh Valley Hazard Mitigation Plan Draft Document for Public Review and Comment

Northampton and Lehigh County Emergency Management Offices, in collaboration with Witt O’Brien’s, are pleased to announce that draft copies of the most recent bi-county Hazard Mitigation Plan have been released and are ready for public review and comment.

A five-year update to the Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) is required by local, county, state, and federal agencies in order for communities in Lehigh and Northampton Counties to be eligible for certain types of state and federal mitigation disaster assistance funding. The term “Hazard Mitigation” describes actions that can help reduce or eliminate long-term risks caused by hazards or disasters. The HMP process includes identifying local risks and vulnerabilities associated with disasters and developing long-term strategies to protect people and property from future hazards.

Engaging as many voices from the community as possible is important to the success of the HMP update. Therefore, we welcome public review and comment on the draft 2024 Lehigh Valley Hazard Mitigation Plan, which is posted on the project website 2024 Mitigation Plan | (ncem-pa.org). The HMP will be available for review and comment until March 25, 2024. Whether you are a resident, business owner, or a visitor to either County, we are looking for your input, and there are several ways for you to participate and share this information with others.
