$3.6M Capital Campaign for New Building
Bethlehem, PA, May 18, 2021 – Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley (MOWGLV) announced today the $3.6M “Recipe for the Future” Capital Campaign for a new centralized headquarters at 1302 Sherman Street in Allentown. The new building will provide additional space for meal preparation and nonperishable food storage along with a centralized volunteer pick-up site and the Fleming Community Café.
Meals on Wheels CEO, Vicki Coyle, explained the importance of the Fleming Community Café to the project:
Meals on Wheels has a 50-year history of going “out” to the community. Each day, we take food “out” to clients, whether it’s a senior center, daycare, or individual clients. We are very one-dimensional when it comes to our ability to get the word out about our services. The Fleming Foundation Community Café will be a way for us to bring people “in” to our facility. We want to showcase the food we make, preview different items, and host community groups.
To date, MOWGLV has raised 75% of the funds for the project and is launching the public phase of the campaign to raise the remaining needed funds. The organization is thankful to the following donors who have provided more than $1000 for the project:

Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley’s Capital Campaign committee is Chaired by Bob Schoenen. Bob — a long-time volunteer for MOWGLV — has been active for many years with Moravian College as a Trustee and in other roles at the college. His family owned the longstanding local Bethlehem grocery store, Schoenen’s Markets. The other members of MOWGLV’s Capital Campaign Committee are Mike Santanasto, James Gold, Jerry Beaver and Bob Gadomski.
With this final push of support from the entire community, the organization will be able to complete the renovations and move into the new, centralized building in August 2021.

The mission of Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley is to provide homebound seniors and adults with disabilities with freshly prepared nutritious meals, wellness checks and social visits so they can eat well, stay socially connected and remain living independently for as long as they can. https://mowglv.org/about-us/
