Steel Weekend Sculpture Unveiling
Paying homage to the historical significance and impact of Bethlehem Steel.
Bethlehem, Lehigh Valley, PA., September 16, 2024 – ArtsQuest and the Steel Weekend Arts Sub-Committee has selected Vaughn Randall for the 3rd Annual Sculpture at SteelStacks exhibition. Randall’s sculpture will be installed on Thursday, September 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Visitor’s Center at SteelStacks.
“I seek to convey a sense of wonderment and trepidation through my work,” Randall explains on his online portfolio. “My sculptures serve as a conduit for expressing the awe and apprehension that accompany the uncontainable growth of our technological endeavors.”
Steel Weekend is an exploration of all things steel that is taking place Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22 this year. The Women in Steel exhibition will be in the Alvin H. Butz Gallery in the ArtsQuest Center from September 20 through January 31. This exhibition investigates how four artists use steel to influence the creation of various artworks. These four artists have created a diverse range of works interpreting the use of steel in many different ways.
“ArtsQuest is thrilled to present the 3rd Annual Sculpture at SteelStacks exhibition in conjunction with Steel Weekend. This program is an opportunity to showcase more public works of art in Bethlehem, which fosters engagement with the millions of visitors to the SteelStacks campus each year,” comments Sr. Director of Visual Arts and Education, Lisa Harms. “Dozens of artists from across the globe have submitted work for consideration for this annual event. We are honored to display this year’s selected sculpture, Locus, by renowned artist and professor of sculpture, Vaughn Randall. We are grateful to all of the community partners, stakeholders and artists who served on the selection committee for this year’s exhibition.”
