(ALLENTOWN, PA) – The Allentown Rescue Mission congratulates its Clean Team Workforce Employee of the Month for May, Curtis F.

Curtis knew the importance of having a good work ethic. Starting at a young age, he worked to support himself and then his family. But he fell into the bad habit of drinking beer every night after work which led him to make bad decisions. Eventually, one of his bad decisions landed him in jail.

Staring out of his window at the Lehigh County Prison, Curtis saw the “God is Love” sign illuminated on top of the Allentown Rescue Mission building and knew this was where he could turn his life around. The sign reminded Curtis of his youth when he attended church with his mother and aunt and that God was the answer. After being released from prison, he came to the Allentown Rescue Mission and joined the Transformation Program. It has been a blessing for him ever since.

The Transformation Program classes connected the religious beliefs he learned as a child with ways to implement them in his life now. For additional support, Curtis attended church regularly while in the program and eventually became a member of the church. Curtis dedicated himself to becoming a better man and supporting and guiding his children.

After successfully completing the Transformation Program, he began working for the Clean Team Workforce. Curtis worked many jobs over the past few years, excelling at them all. But he is particularly skilled at maintenance work and as a result, was hired through the Clean Team Workforce as facilities maintenance for the Allentown Rescue Mission. Most recently, Curtis upgraded the freezer area at the Mission which involved leveling floors, repairing walls, and painting the room. He continues, however, to work off-site jobs when customers request him.

The Allentown Rescue Mission thanks Curtis for his dedication to the job, for being a team player, and for always putting the customer first.

 

The Allentown Rescue Mission, a 501c3, 123 bed non-profit homeless shelter has been providing shelter for homeless men since 1900. In addition to emergency shelter services (365 days a year), the Allentown Rescue Mission offers a residential life skills program, and transitional employment on the Clean Team Workforce that’s available for hire to the community. The Clean Team Workforce pays the men above PA state minimum wage– helping them save a nest egg to transition back into the community. In a typical year, the Allentown Rescue Mission provides shelter services for over 946 men per year, and serves over 42,000 meals a year to men in need.
