BETHLEHEM, P.a. — Today the National Museum of Industrial History (NMIH) announced new initiatives to increase access to cultural resources through its enrollment in a new program to provide discounted admission for low-income families and the return of special discount admission days for seniors, students, and families.
NMIH has joined Museums for All, a signature access program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), administered by the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM), to encourage people of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build lifelong museum-going habits. The program supports those receiving food assistance (SNAP) benefits visiting NMIH for a minimal fee of $3 per person, up to four people, with the presentation of a SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. Similar free and reduced admission is available to eligible members of the public at more than 700 museums across the country. Museums for All is part of NMIH’s broad commitment to seek, include, and welcome all audiences.
NMIH will also be reinstating its special half-off discount days (regular prices listed below) that were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting this Wednesday, November 3rd, Half Price Senior Days resume the first Wednesday of each month and this Thursday, November 4th, Half Price Student Days (with a current student ID) resume the first Thursday of each month.
The Lehigh Valley community and traveling guests can take advantage of Family Sundays, resuming on November 7th, offering free admission to all children under 12 years old when accompanied by an adult.
“Museums enhance the quality of life for all in the community and through these programs, we aim to increase the accessibility of NMIH as a cultural and educational resource for all ages and backgrounds,” said Kara Mohsinger, President and CEO of the Museum. NMIH also offers several free community events throughout the year including its upcoming Veterans Day celebration which offers complimentary admission to veterans and their families.
In addition to the 18,000 sq. ft. main exhibit space featuring artifacts on loan from Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, guests can now explore the museum’s new outdoor Foundry Park with original artifacts from Bethlehem Steel on display. Visitors can enhance their experience and dive deeper into the Industrial Revolution with NMIH’s free mobile guide, designed to enhance the Museum experience with additional images, videos, and information about our artifacts.
