Allentown, PA (CT6-23) — A new Carbon Transit (CT) bus route with service to Mauch Chunk Lake will be introduced this Saturday (July 1). The summer-long service will continue each Saturday through September 2nd according to County Commissioner Chris L. Lukasevich. “For the first time in Carbon County history there will be public transit service to this popular destination,” Lukasevich said.
Carbon Transit will run three trips per day serving Nesquehoning, Lansford, Summit Hill, Mauch Chunk Lake, and Jim Thorpe. Using CT vans the service is designated as Route 741. Bus stops at the Lake will be at the beach as well as the Camp Store.
“We believe adding this transit service to Mauch Chunk Lake, one of our county’s greatest assets, will enhance the lives of many of our residents,” said a statement issued by the Carbon County Commissioners. The first trip each Saturday departs from the CT Depot in Nesquehoning at 10:00 a.m., and the final departure from the Lake is at 5:36 p.m.
Further route, schedule, and fare information is available at www.carbontransit.com, or call 888-253-8333. Exact fare of $2.00 per trip is required. Mobile tickets are available by downloading the TRANSIT app, and LANTA mobile fares are accepted. In addition, children under 5 years of age ride free; ages 6-12 pay full fare and must be accompanied by a fare-paying adult. Senior Citizens ride free with existing senior citizens ID Card (see website for details); and persons with disabilities may ride CT Bus for half-fare with PennDOT Reduced Fare Card. All CT vans are accessible.
Carbon Transit is administered by the Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority (LANTA) under contract with Carbon County. CT vans are not equipped with bike racks, and bicycles are not permitted on buses.
