Bethlehem, PA – October 25, 2022 – The garage where Service Electric stores and maintains its production trucks served double duty on October 19th, as it was converted to an unconventional meeting room for 40 members of the Executive Forum of the Lehigh Valley. The group gathered to learn about Service Electric, including the company’s rich history as the inventor of cable TV and the variety of services that they offer to small, medium and large businesses in the region.
Each month, the Executive Forum holds breakfast meetings at different venues, and on October 19th it was Service Electric’s turn to host. Highlights of the meeting included a tour of the Service Electric Network (SEN) studios, the master control room, and one of the impressive mobile units used for broadcasting local sports and events. Mike Starner, senior business development & government affairs manager at Service Electric, gave a presentation outlining the past, present and future of the organization. The presentation focused on how Service Electric supports the many businesses of the Greater Lehigh Valley region with the infrastructure to provide high-speed broadband through an investment of more than $400 million with our regional partners.
“It’s always a pleasure to spread the Service Electric message,” said Starner. “Many people in the area are aware of our residential services, but not everyone is aware that we, along with our partners at PenTeleData, provide the broadband connectivity backbone for this entire region.
Everything from the major healthcare systems to local municipalities and first responders rely on us for vital services that keep the region connected.”
In addition, Starner highlighted Service Electric’s commitment to the community and the millions of dollars that the company has donated and helped to raise for local charities and nonprofits.
Organizations like Valley Youth House, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Susan G. Komen, Angel 34
and others have benefitted from the generosity of America’s first cable TV company. Community involvement was important to founder John Walson Sr. and his family. His son and former company president John Walson Jr. also established lasting relationships with many local charities and nonprofits prior to his passing in 2012. The legacy continues with his son, John M. Walson.
“Many people aren’t aware of the huge commitment that Service Electric has made to the community. This year alone we helped raise more than $365,000 to support Valley Youth House through the John E. Walson Jr. Memorial Golf & Pickleball Tournament. We also donated and installed equipment to bring Internet service to new cabins at their Camp Fowler campus. In addition we helped to raise more than $106,000 at the John E. Walson Jr. Golf for Kids’ Sake tournament for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lehigh Valley to build a STEAM lab. One of the highlights of the summer was when we supported more than 2,000 volunteers at the USGA Senior Open, plus arranged for 30 kids to experience the event and work one-on-one with pros to learn the game of golf.”
Starner hopes to continue spreading the word to the Greater Lehigh Valley business community that Service Electric is much more than just a cable TV company.
