{"id":80444,"date":"2018-08-01T22:08:18","date_gmt":"2018-08-02T02:08:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=80444"},"modified":"2018-08-01T22:08:18","modified_gmt":"2018-08-02T02:08:18","slug":"the-foundation-for-the-bethlehem-area-school-district-welcome-new-board-members","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevalleyledger.com\/?p=80444","title":{"rendered":"The Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District Welcome New Board Members"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">BETHLEHEM, PA \u2013 The Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District announces the appointment of four new members of its Board of Trustees, as well as the full slate of officers and board members for 2018-2019.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Arial;\">Joining the board of trustees are Janelle Creveling, Matthew Malozi, Kerry Wrobel and Courtney Weikert. \u201cAll four board members embody the spirit of the Bethlehem Area School District community and bring talent, expertise and energy to the table. We are fortunate that we have people who are dedicated to the district, and The Foundation is elevating itself to a level that will be beneficial to the district, to the students, and to the community.\u201d said Joseph Roy, Superintendent of Schools for Bethlehem Area School District and Liaison for The Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Arial;\">Janelle Creveling joins us from Embassy Bank as their customer service manager, located on the Westside Bethlehem. As a mom, Janelle is excited to participate on Embassy Bank\u2019s behalf in giving back to the Bethlehem\u2019s West Side community through education initiatives. An active member in the community, Janelle volunteers her own time for a variety of nonprofit organizations in the Lehigh Valley. She currently spends her time working with the Safe Harbor in Easton collecting donations and serving food, the Nazareth Food Bank, and the Angel 34 foundation. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Arial;\">Matthew Malozi is a Regional Vice President with RETTEW Associates, Inc., a 320-member civil engineering firm. He oversees the firm\u2019s offices in Allentown and Conshohocken and is responsible for overall business operations in eastern PA and NJ. Matt is an active volunteer, holding positions on the board of directors for numerous nonprofits and currently serves as the Chairman of Penn\u2019s Transportation Systems Engineering Alumni group and founded the Vukan R. Vuchic Scholarship for undergraduate students engaged in studies related to urban public transportation. A product of local public schools, Matthew is a strong advocate for public education and serves as one of Asa Packer Elementary School\u2019s representative on BASD\u2019s Parent Advisory Committee. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Arial;\">Kerry A. Wrobel is the president of Lehigh Valley Industrial Park Inc. (LVIP), a private nonprofit economic development corporation. He currently manages the redevelopment of 1,000 acres of the former Bethlehem Steel property, considered the largest privately-owned brownfield site in the U.S. Mr. Wrobel served as the first executive vice president of the Bethlehem Economic Development Corporation and began his career as an economic development specialist in the Office of Community and Economic Development with the City of Reading, Pa. Mr. Wrobel is a Board member and officer of New Bethany Ministries, St. Francis Retreat House, and the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. <\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Arial;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Arial;\">Serving as our new Bethlehem Education Association (BEA) teacher liaison is Kindergarten teacher Courtney Weikert. A district employee since 1996 and Liberty Alum, Weikert has taught 2nd and 3rd grade before settling down to teach kindergarten. She has taught at Freemansburg, William Penn, Marvine, Miller Heights, and is now at Thomas Jefferson. Weikert\u2019s oldest and 2018 graduate, took the initiative to spear head a sign language program at the high school level during his time at Liberty. It is governed by a volunteer board of trustees, composed of business and community leaders who lend expertise to the operations of the organization. The Foundation\u2019s focus has been helping educators deliver innovative teaching to students inside and outside the classroom.
