Washington \u2013<\/strong> U.S. Representatives Matt Cartwright and Tom Marino have announced that they are hosting a joint Service Academy Informational Session at Clarks Summit Elementary School.\u00a0\u00a0 The event is set to take place on Wednesday, April 19th<\/span> from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.<\/span> and is open to all interested students and their families.<\/p>\n

The informational session will include representatives from the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY; United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD; United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO; and United States Merchant Marine Academy, King’s Point, NY.<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout our nation\u2019s history, U.S. Service Academies have played an important role in preparing young people for service to our country.\u00a0 Pennsylvania has never been short of patriotic young men and women willing to step forward and answer the call of duty.\u00a0 It is an honor to help them take advantage of the opportunities provided by these institutions in preparing tomorrow’s<\/span> generation of leaders,\u201d said Rep. Cartwright.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rep. Marino added<\/strong>, \u201cMany young men and women from my district pursuing service academy nominations are the best and brightest in our schools and communities. I applaud their interest in serving our country and it is one of my greatest privileges to meet these future leaders and encourage them on their journey.\u201d<\/p>\n

The session will include an overview of academy life as well as an opportunity to meet with academy representatives to discuss requirements for admission.\u00a0 Academy nominations are available only through a Member of Congress, the Vice President, or the President.\u00a0 After receiving a nomination, students then must be accepted by the individual academy for final admission.<\/p>\n
