The lecture will serve as the keynote address for the Institute for Moravian History and World Heritage\u2019s Inaugural Conference.<\/p>\n<p>The 169th annual lecture will be presented by Dr Simon Woodward, who has spent nearly 40 years working in the field of cultural and heritage tourism with a particular interest in World Heritage issues. Properties inscribed on the World Heritage List, such as the Moravian Church Settlements in Bethlehem, are celebrated by UNESCO because of their &#8216;Outstanding Universal Value.&#8217; Drawing on examples from around the globe, this presentation will explore strategies that world heritage managers and their partners can adopt to entertain and enrich the experiences of visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and interests. \u200b<\/p>\n<p>The Annual Meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by the lecture at 7:00 p.m. A reception will follow the lecture. The event is free and open to the public. Registration is requested by visiting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moravianhistory.org\/annual-meeting\">www.moravianhistory.org\/annual-meeting<\/a> or by calling <a href=\"tel:(610)%20759-5070\">610-759-5070<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Simon has a particular interest in developing responsible tourism experiences that celebrate the culture and heritage of a destination and that deliver real benefits to host communities. For instance, he is currently advising the World Bank on a strategy to support craft and creative industry workers based in Lamu Old Town World Heritage Site, Kenya. He is also working for the World Bank on a major new visitor management plan for the Kunta Kinteh Island and Related Sites World Heritage property in the Gambia. His 2022 academic text book entitled <em>World Heritage: Concepts, Management and Conservation<\/em>, co-authored with the archaeologist Dr Louise Cooke, is one of the core texts for all those keen to understand both the benefits and the challenges that World Heritage status can bring to a destination.<\/p>\n<p>The 169th annual lecture is supported, in part, with funding from the Hotel Tax Grant Program through the County of Northampton Department of Community &amp; Economic Development.<\/p>\n<p>The Moravian Historical Society is open daily from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and is located at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/search\/214+East+Center+Street,+Nazareth,+Pennsylvania?entry=gmail&amp;source=g\">214 East Center Street, Nazareth, Pennsylvania<\/a>. The historic site includes two 18th-century buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
