The unit culminates in a hands-on writer’s room workshop, where seniors reimagine a bygone or forgotten comic book character and plot a four-issue miniseries to introduce their concept to the world. Students also study comic book writing from pitch to publishing, exploring scripting, sequential storytelling, and the parallels between comics and film.

This weekend, Beatty will appear at the Lehigh Valley Comic Convention, held at the Allentown Fairgrounds Agri-Plex Expo Center, June 6 & 7, 2026. This is LVCC’s 25th anniversary show.

Beatty shares: “I’m thrilled to be part of the convention again this year. Comic books are such an incredible way to explore character, storytelling, and imagination, and I love sharing that with others. It’s equally rewarding to see the students at Charter Arts take these lessons and create their own worlds.
