{"id":149785,"date":"2026-06-04T23:57:57","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T03:57:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevalleyledger.com\/?p=149785"},"modified":"2026-06-04T23:57:57","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T03:57:57","slug":"tilly-lockey-shines-as-keynote-at-good-shepherds-2026-boundless-speaker-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevalleyledger.com\/?p=149785","title":{"rendered":"Tilly Lockey Shines as Keynote at Good Shepherd\u2019s 2026 Boundless Speaker Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><em><strong>Photo courtesy of Good Shepherd Rehabilitation (credit Marco Calderon)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>ALLENTOWN, Pa. \u2014<\/strong>\u00a0Motivational speaker, social media star and disability advocate\u00a0<strong>Tilly Lockey<\/strong>, who lost her hands at 15 months old due to a severe strain of meningococcal septicemia, shared her inspirational message of perseverance to a crowd of 200 people at Good Shepherd\u2019s annual\u00a0<em>Boundless<\/em>\u00a0Speaker Series on June 3.<\/p>\n<p>Now at age 20, Lockey is a global advocate for technological advancements in bionic prosthetics and has been featured in\u00a0<em>Rolling Stone, Yahoo! News, BBC News, Wired, Inside Edition\u00a0<\/em>and more.<\/p>\n<p>Good Shepherd held the keynote address on its South Allentown Campus, 850 S. 5th\u00a0St.\u00a0<strong>Host and former WFMZ anchor\/reporter Melanie Falcon<\/strong>\u00a0served as the event\u2019s guest emcee and conducted an audience Q&amp;A session with Lockey.<\/p>\n<p>In her keynote, Lockey shared how technology can change the lives of people with disabilities in a variety of ways. In her case, bionic prosthetic arms led to a world of difference. As a young child and still grappling with how meningitis took her hands, Lockey began traveling around the globe to share her story of inspiration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Technology is] giving people limbs back, sight back, the ability to walk again,\u201d Lockey said. \u201cCould we get carried away if this tech is in the wrong hands? Yes. But the way I think we avoid that is by keeping it with ethical root, consulting people who live differently and have genuine needs. Helping people, changing lives, being innovative. And lucky for us, we have the power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is the fourth year of Good Shepherd\u2019s\u00a0<em>Boundless\u00a0<\/em>Speaker Series.\u00a0In 2025,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodshepherdrehab.org\/about-us\/newsroom\/jillian-mercado-wows-crowd-of-200-at-national-speaker-event\/\">Jillian Mercado<\/a>\u00a0visited Allentown.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodshepherdrehab.org\/about-us\/newsroom\/chris-norton-inspires-sold-out-crowd-at-hyland-center-2\/\">Chris Norton<\/a>\u00a0appeared in 2024.
