{"id":149740,"date":"2026-06-03T21:14:50","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T01:14:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevalleyledger.com\/?p=149740"},"modified":"2026-06-03T21:14:50","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T01:14:50","slug":"stefano-coleman-sunshine-act-transparency-bill-approved-by-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevalleyledger.com\/?p=149740","title":{"rendered":"Stefano, Coleman Sunshine Act Transparency Bill Approved by Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HARRISBURG \u2013\u00a0Legislation sponsored by Sens.\u00a0Pat Stefano (R-32)\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.senatorcoleman.com\/\">Jarrett Coleman (R-16)<\/a>\u00a0to strengthen government transparency and protect the public&#8217;s right to know was approved unanimously by the Senate State Government Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPennsylvanians deserve advance notice of every issue their government plans to discuss and vote on,&#8221; Stefano said. &#8220;This bill strengthens transparency, accountability and public confidence in the public decision-making process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA recent Supreme Court decision made it possible for local governments to approve a major project like a data center, without ever providing notice to the public,\u201d Coleman said. \u201cThis legislation\u00a0closes\u00a0that loophole by ensuring\u00a0Pennsylvanians have the notice they need so that they can engage in and impact the decisions being made in their communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.palegis.us\/legislation\/bills\/2025\/sb1150\">Senate Bill 1150<\/a>\u00a0would clarify Pennsylvania&#8217;s Sunshine Act to ensure public agencies provide meaningful notice before taking action on important matters.
