{"id":107521,"date":"2021-08-04T22:45:35","date_gmt":"2021-08-05T02:45:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=107521"},"modified":"2021-08-04T22:45:35","modified_gmt":"2021-08-05T02:45:35","slug":"jennifer-west-brings-personal-experience-to-lead-good-shepherds-multiple-sclerosis-wellness-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevalleyledger.com\/?p=107521","title":{"rendered":"Jennifer West Brings Personal Experience to Lead Good Shepherd\u2019s Multiple Sclerosis Wellness Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALLENTOWN, PA \u2014<\/strong>\u00a0For Jennifer West, PT, MPT, MBA, MSCS, leading Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network\u2019s award-winning\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodshepherdrehab.org\/condition\/ms-wellness-program\/\">Multiple Scleroris (MS) Wellness Program<\/a>\u00a0is not just an opportunity to help people living with the disease, it\u2019s personal for her, too.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because West, a trained physical therapist and certified MS specialist, also lives with MS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have lived with MS since 2003, which was only three years after starting my career as a physical therapist,\u201d says West. \u201cAs I have seen changes and progressions in my MS and have sought out various treatments for myself, I decided I wanted to get more involved in the MS community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Combining MSCS certification with her 20-plus years of physical therapy experience ultimately will benefit MS patients in the region, West says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will be able to relate first-hand with MS patients, because I am right there with them,\u201d says West. \u201cThat connection can and will be very helpful in providing effective care.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-multiple-scleroris-treatment\">Multiple Scleroris Treatment<\/h2>\n<p>The MS Wellness Program is based out of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodshepherdrehab.org\/location\/good-shepherd-health-technology-center\/\">Good Shepherd Health &amp; Technology Center<\/a>, 850 S. 5<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Street, in South Allentown. The program provides health and wellness education, modified group exercise, social outings and updates on the latest MS research.<\/p>\n<p>Program members also have access to MS treatment from Good Shepherd, a National MS Society \u201cPartner in MS Care,\u201d including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, physician\/physiatry services, vision therapy and other services.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-experience\">Experience<\/h2>\n<p>Previously, West served as the site manager of Good Shepherd\u2019s outpatient\u00a0<a class=\"ek-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.goodshepherdrehab.org\/location\/schnecksville\/\">Schnecksville<\/a>\u00a0site, where she treated a variety of orthopedic and neurological diagnoses.<\/p>\n<p>West earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in biology from Lafayette College, a master\u2019s in physical therapy from Medical College of Pennsylvania (MCP) Hahnemann University (now Drexel University College of Medicine) and a master\u2019s in business administration from DeSales University. During her time at Lafayette, West was a three-time captain of the Division I softball team, earning Patriot League Player of the Year honors in back-to-back years.
