We continue our trek along the Trexler Border Trail, this time in the South Range. This is a loop-hike (about 3.6 miles) from the former Compost Center, now a parking lot, through Geiger’s covered bridge, then some ups and downs and more ups near Kids Peace. More ups as we come just in sight of the Environmental Education Building. We’ll swoop down The Trexler Nature Trail to the Ford and back to our cars.
Much of the 1,108-acre Trexler Nature Preserve, home of the Lehigh Valley Zoo, was owned by General Harry Clay Trexler, a successful lumber merchant and a founder of Lehigh Portland Cement Company. Trexler created the Preserve for bison, elk, and white-tail deer. Wildlands Conservancy has done extensive work at TNP, including stream restoration near the bison pen, and recent buffer plantings in four areas of TNP.

Wear comfortable footwear. Bring hiking poles. Wildlands will have poles available too. Dogs on leash are welcome. Portable bathrooms are at the parking lot and the Ford.
After our hike, you might choose to visit the Zoo and/or more of the preserve. There are many other trails (about 20 miles!) to explore while you are here.

DIRECTIONS: From US Route 22, take Route 309 north for 4.5 miles to Old Packhouse Road. Turn left onto Old Packhouse Road (west) and go 1.2 miles to the driveway to the parking lot on the right. Turn right and go up the driveway. We’ll meet at the far end of the parking lot.
