OREFIELD, PA (November 13, 2018) – KidsPeace’s Pennsylvania youth residential treatment program has received recognition from Philadelphia officials for the incorporation of evidence-based practices in its behavioral health treatment offerings.
The organization was formally designated an Evidence-Based Practices (EBP) provider by the city’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services’ Evidence-Based Practice and Innovation Center (EPIC). EPIC says the designation recognizes KidsPeace’s exemplary record of delivering services to children in need through Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) at its facility in Orefield, PA. KidsPeace is the first residential treatment program provider to receive the EBP designation for TF-CBT.
Dominick DiSalvo, Senior Director of Clinical Services for KidsPeace’s residential programs in Pennsylvania, noted that EPIC requires programs receiving EBP Program Designation to meet an exacting set of certification standards in implementing EBP programs.
“At KidsPeace, we’ve invested a substantial amount of time and financial resources to train our associates in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which is a highly regarded method of clinically treating clients who have experienced traumatic events in their young lives,” DiSalvo said. “To me, the recognition from EPIC cements our dedication to use best practices in caring for the youth and their families entrusted to our care.”
KidsPeace uses the TF-CBT model to promote healing from trauma in a flexible and dynamic way to meet the needs of the youth and their families. It looks to help youth find their voice, and help empower resiliency within the whole family, with the goal to help the survivors of trauma to become the owners of their story, and turn them into “thrivers” in their communities.
