Lehigh Valley Steelhawks fans gathered at the PPL Center Saturday night for this season’s home game finale against the North Carolina Cobras. Hope ran high within the stands for the Steelhawks to break the 0-12 losing streak, but it just didn’t happen. The Cobras crushed The Steelhawks with a final score of 28-78.
The Cobras received the opening kick-off and within the first two minutes, the Steelhawks intercepted the ball. Then, within the next five minutes it was the Cobras who landed on the score board first. During the first quarter, the Steelhawks grabbed every opportunity available to get on the scoreboard as they rustled up a few field goals. But at the end of the first quarter, The Cobras established the lead with a score of 6-16.
As the second quarter began, The Steelhawks broke through the Cobras’ tight defensive line and scored their first touchdown. The Cobras aggressively scored three touchdowns before the Steelhawks intercepted the ball and scored one touchdown for the quarter with 16 seconds left in the first half of the game. The quarter closed with a score of 19-38.
The Steelhawks scored early in the third quarter, with a deuce and a touch down and refueled the hope as the score closed in at 27-38. But the Steelhawks couldn’t keep the Cobras out of their territory as they scored two more touchdowns which brought the score to 28-53.
By the last quarter, it became obvious that the energy level ran out for The Steelhawks, as the Cobras frequently intercepted and scored four touchdowns that left the Steelhawks in the dust at 28-78.
The Steelhawks have one more away game left in their season as they take on the Massachusetts Pirates next Saturday. While they didn’t have the best season this year, with the strong support of Steelhawks fans they are destined for a better season next year. Go Steelhawks!
