ALLENTOWN, PA – Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Healthcare Pennsylvania has endorsed Allentown community leader Dr. Greg Edwards, Democrat running for Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional district.
SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania is the state’s largest and fastest growing union of nurses and healthcare workers, uniting nearly 45,000 nurses, professional and technical employees, direct care workers, and service employees in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, home and community-based services, and State facilities across the Commonwealth. SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania members are committed to improving the lives of healthcare workers and ensuring quality care and healthy communities for all Pennsylvanians.
Edwards recently marched alongside SEIU members in Philadelphia, and was a speaker at an SEIU rally in Allentown. Both events were held to oppose Janus, a Supreme Court ruling that would be devastating to organized labor and will impact millions of workers across the country.
“Dr. Greg Edwards has been an unwavering advocate for the union rights of working people at a time of unprecedented attack by our nation’s wealthiest special interests. He understands that good, union jobs lift up working standards for everyone and gives healthcare workers the power to create safer, quality care for our most vulnerable citizens.” Said Matt Yarnell, president of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania “SEIU is proud to support Dr. Edwards for Congress as he advances his vision of creating more fair, inclusive and equitable communities for all families in the Lehigh Valley.”
“It is an honor to receive the endorsement of SEIU,” said Edwards “A union that truly understands the intersectional nature of racial justice and economic justice and champions the cause of workers who are most often undervalued and overlooked. I look forward to working with SEIU and continuing to build the momentum of our people powered grassroots campaign that will propel our victory in November.”
In addition to SEIU, the campaign has received national endorsements from the Justice Democrats, Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC), Common Defense, Working Families Party, The Collective PAC, and locally from Bethlehem City Council Vice President Olga Negrón, Representative Dwight E. Evans (PA-2), Women’s March PA and Make the Road Action in Pennsylvania.
Greg Edwards is a human and civil rights activist running as a Democrat for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District. He believes we need a bold new vision for America where families have greater opportunities, our children have a brighter future, companies provide good jobs that last, and doing what is right comes before power and profits. He has lived and worked to improve the well-being of Allentown and the greater Lehigh Valley for over 20 years.
