I’m straying from my typical protocol and divulging a personal truth today. I love horses. Possibly to an extent beyond most, in a way that many young girls can relate to. I took lessons religiously every week for ten years, in fact, until the dreaded “adulthood” kicked in, accompanied by responsibilities (as well as a restricted budget). I was forced to make changes, despite my passion for the sport.
Now being very close to the label “over the hill”, an opportunity arose to take my first lesson since college at the A Bit Of Luck Farm. Conveniently located 3 miles down the road from routes 78 and 22, only 10 minutes from Allentown, obviously, I leapt at the opportunity without hesitation nor reservation. My family decided to tag along, to see if my years of stories held any weight, and to see if I still “had it”. No pressure, right? (Yes, I was totally panicked at this point.)
I had no idea what was in store for me. I mean, 20 years have passed. I’m not as “in shape” as I was in college, let’s face it. I was nervous & excited, and totally unsure of what to expect.
That all ended as soon as I met Jess Gay, my instructor, on arrival. She was very welcoming and easygoing. She introduced my “trusty steed” for the lesson, Wink, to me. (Wink is a Belgian/Quarter horse with the sweetest of personalities and takes a very gentle approach with EVERYONE who rides her.) We groomed her, tacked her up and headed to the arena. I think the lesson went rather well, considering my hiatus from riding, exceeding all of my expectations. (What a relief!)
Afterwards, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Noemi Debriano, the founder and owner of A Bit Of Luck Farm.
She began riding at the age of six, the ideal age to begin riding, and the minimum age requirement for lessons at A Bit Of Luck Farm. She explained that riding provided her a means to set aside all of the stressors of day-to-day life, and to simply connect with her horse, and to work together as a team, even if just for a short while. This is an experience she thrives to provide all of her riders, and is her primary goal with every lesson they give. Thanks to her college education in the field, Noemi also has a strong passion on balanced nutrition and behavior.
She purchased the farm six years ago. With a dog and horse training business as her initial focus for the farm, she opened her “gate”. (Yes, pun intended!) Very quickly, she devoted her life and business full time to horse boarding, training, and multi-discipline lessons. Additionally, they are able to accommodate lessons in all types of weather and are open year round.
The remarkable strength of A Bit Of Luck Farm is their genuine and unparalleled love of both horses and people. Regardless of your age, size, situation, saddle preference or preferred riding style, you are welcome, and you are in the absolute right place. No pressure, no judgement, and absolute therapy!
