T-TOWN ELITE SHINES AT 2017 TRACK NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

CARSON, Ca. – Unlike a year ago, the T-Town Elite squad was not racing in nationals on its home track last week, but that did not hinder the results as the team totaled 28 medals and two national championships at the 2017 USA Cycling Junior and Elite Track National Championships. The event was held at the Velo Sports Center, part of the StubHub Center, in Carson, California.

The two national championships were earned by Justin Butsavage, who was a member of the winning team pursuit squad in the men’s 17-18 category, and Divya Verma, who won the overall omnium in the junior women’s 11-12 omnium.

Other gold medals were earned by Sophia Shuhay (junior women’s 15-16 time trial, sprint, and team sprint), Emma Workowski (junior women’s 15-16 team pursuit), and Nathan Roberts (junior men’s 15-16 team pursuit). Verma earned two gold medals, in the time trial and the scratch race to help catapult her to the overall omnium crown.

T-Town Elite was plenty familiar with the podium by week’s end, however, as Jonah Hover, Reagan Pattishall, Grayson Hauck, Nicholas Roberts, Matt Smith, and Connor Thompson also earned medals in various events, with nearly all of the aforementioned riders making trips to the podium in multiple events during the week.

“T-Town Elite fought hard last week,” said Marty Nothstein, VPCC executive director and T-Town Elite coach. “There are a lot of talented riders in the U.S. and our riders battled with them every day. I am proud of their results and cannot wait to get back to work to build towards next year’s nationals championships.”
