BETHLEHEM, PA – February 4, 2015 – Ghost hunters and fans of old fashioned whodunits will descend upon the Christmas City for two winter themed weekends at Historic Hotel Bethlehem. The property is bringing back its popular Murder Mystery Weekend next month and its Ghostbreakers Weekend in March.
Now in its third year, the theme of this year’s Murder Mystery weekend is “The Valentine Motive.” The three-day, two-night Murder Mystery Weekend takes place February 20-22. It is created and run by Keith O’Leary and Margo Morrison, award-winning writers, producers, and directors with backgrounds in motion picture, television, and theatrical production
The mystery begins at a reception on Friday evening when guests are introduced to each other, not all of whom are who they appear to be, and someone is murdered. Actors blend into the group and incriminate other guests in the murder. The plot develops and clues are given over the early afternoon on Saturday, when dreadful events occur, and guests may even stumble over a dead body or two. By dinner on Saturday night, guests might think they have all the information they need to solve the murder, but there’s always a final twist.
Sunday Brunch is when the mystery comes to an end. Guests write down their best hunch about who did what to whom and why. The Murder Mystery team will select the best-submitted hunch, along with some of the more outlandish suggestions, at an awards ceremony.
Murder Mystery packages start at $449 per room per night (based on double occupancy) and include overnight accommodations, hors d’oeuvres on Friday night, breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and Sunday brunch.
Well-known for its spirited guests, Hotel Bethlehem is a ghost hunters dream with three ghosts who call it home – May Yohe, Francis “Daddy” Thomas, and Mrs. Brong. Ghostbreakers Weekend is lead by the Ghostbreakers Paranormal Research Organization, an organization that is dedicated to researching and investigating paranormal activity, and consists of professional investigators and law enforcement officers
The March 27-29 event, now in its fifth year, includes ghostly talks, trainings, tours, and investigations. It concludes with the hotel’s famous Sunday Musical Brunch where guests can regroup and discuss the weekend’s ghostly experiences. Infrared thermal scanners, electromagnetic field detectors, and electronic voice phenomenon devices will be employed as the paranormal professionals hunt the hotel’s permanent guests.
A talk entitled “Haunted Crimes… Here or There?” will be lead by Katherine Ramsland, a non-fiction author and associate professor of forensic psychology at DeSales University, and Dana DeVito, General Manager at the Moravian Book Shop. Ramsland and DeVito are co-authors of the book “Bethlehem Ghosts – Historical Hauntings in and Around Pennsylvania’s Christmas City” which includes stories from Hotel Bethlehem, the State Theatre, and other locations.
Packages start at $265 for one night or $445 for two nights (both rates are based on double occupancy). A single-day package option for local residents who don’t need overnight accommodations is $45 per person and includes tours and other activities.
