Kathleen Evison’s Appointment Effective Oct. 22
Center Valley, Pa. – The Board of School Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Kathleen T. Evison as Superintendent of Southern Lehigh School District effective October 22, replacing Dr. Leah M. Christman, who is retiring.
Evison brings extensive administrative experience to her role as Superintendent, having served as a central office and building administrator, IU administrator, and a teacher of general and special education.
A Lower Macungie Township resident, she comes to Southern Lehigh from Reading School District where she serves as Chief Student Services Officer, a position she has held since 2014. Prior to that she was an administrator with the Berks County Intermediate Unit for eight years, leading programs providing services to more than 5,000 students and families.
“When we started our search for the Superintendent we were looking for someone who could communicate well, who had a vision for our district and who would work well with everyone. Mrs. Evison’s answers to all of the questions through three separate interviews were always thoughtful and clear,” said school board President Kathleen Parsons. “From her background with different education systems we know that she works very well with all different groups of people. I believe her vision for the future of the Southern Lehigh School district is in step with what our community wants.”
Evison has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Chester, U.K, and a graduate degree in Secondary Education, along with secondary teaching certificate from University of Lancaster, U.K. She also earned a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from St. Joseph’s University, Pa. and a Letter of Eligibility for Superintendent at Edinboro University. In addition to her Letter of Eligibility for Superintendent, Evison is certified in the Commonwealth as a Principal, a Supervisor of Special Education, and a Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction.
“Southern Lehigh School District has a commitment to excellence and sets high expectations for all learners. The school board, staff, parents, and community demonstrate a shared desire to implement innovative programs and solutions to ensure our students are ready for the challenges of college and career,” Evison said. “I am honored to be selected as the new Superintendent of Southern Lehigh and I look forward to engaging with all stakeholders to develop open communication and collaborative relationships as we build upon the successes of the district and continue to set high expectations for all learners.”
We welcome Mrs. Evison to her new position as Superintendent, and look forward to her leadership in our continued search for excellence.
