Allentown, PA (May 12, 2016) On May 16, Union Terrace Elementary School’s Health Room Assistant, Luz Santiago, will receive the Lauretta Woodson Award from the Lehigh Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, Lehigh Chapter (PASR). Santiago will be honored at PASR’s annual Luncheon beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Iron Lakes Country Club in Allentown.
The award is given to a support professional who has exhibited creativity, initiative or productivity which is relevant to the learning process and the growth of children.
Santiago was nominated for the award because of her dedication to the Union Terrace students and their families. She has worked in the school’s health room for 11 years, while also working at a local assisted living facility and attending college to realize her dream of obtaining her nursing degree. Additionally, “Santiago is bilingual and generously helps by speaking to our Spanish parents when needed,” according to the nomination submission.
PASR’s Educational Committee developed the Lauretta Woodson Award program to showcase the good work being done in the state’s public schools. Awardees are presented with a medallion, certificate and PASR pin.
