Timothy L. DeFoor speaks with students at the Bethlehem and Pocono campuses to discuss internships and jobs available in his department
BETHLEHEM, PA – Timothy L. DeFoor, Pennsylvania’s auditor general, visited Northampton Community College (NCC) today to discuss his department’s expanded career pathways for graduates of accredited associate degree programs. Graduates with majors in accounting, business, data analytics, finance, economics, math, and other closely related fields may now be considered for career opportunities with the Department of the Auditor General.
“Our goal is to create pathways to careers and expand opportunities to good jobs to more Pennsylvanians than ever before,” says DeFoor. “As a community college graduate, I can tell you firsthand that associate degree programs offer practical, hands-on training that prepares students for high-demand careers like auditing. That’s why I am so excited to visit with students at Northampton Community College to recruit the next generation of our workforce.”
DeFoor discussed these new opportunities with students at NCC’s Bethlehem and Pocono campuses. Previously, candidates were required to hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, with 12 credits of accounting coursework, in order to be considered for a position with the department.
“NCC is delighted to host the auditor general on our campuses and give our students the chance to meet with him and learn about these exciting career opportunities,” says David A. Ruth, Ph.D., president of NCC. “At NCC, we take great pride in knowing that we provide our students with the skills and knowledge to be leaders in the workforce. The expanded opportunities through the Department of the Auditor General are further recognition of the value and quality of a community college education.”
DeFoor also discussed his department’s Intern to Hire Program, which has expanded to include individuals who have earned an associate degree within the last six months. The Intern to Hire Program offers candidates full-time positions in the department upon graduation from an undergraduate or graduate program as long as they have worked 900 hours, or six months, and have had successful performance reviews.
“I could go on about the benefits of working for the Commonwealth and the job satisfaction you get from public service,” says DeFoor. “Instead, I encourage you to find out for yourself—visit our newly redesigned website at paauditor.gov and explore the career opportunities we have available for you.”
DeFoor is visiting community colleges throughout the state to promote the Department of the Auditor General’sexpanded job opportunities. For more information about career opportunities or the Intern to Hire Program, visit paauditor.gov/careers.
