HARRISBURG, Jan. 30 – State Rep. Mike Schlossberg issued the following statement about Monday’s decision by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court regarding the Allegheny Reproductive Health Center case.
“With the Dobbs decision, the United States Supreme Court essentially left the fate of abortion health care to the whim of the states, as if the rights of a woman in Pennsylvania are more or less important than if she lived elsewhere. This is a horrendous policy. Abortion should be legal across the country. Monday’s decision will put Pennsylvania’s Medicaid abortion ban under the scrutiny it deserves under the Pennsylvania Constitution.
“Pennsylvania’s Medical Medicaid abortion ban serves no reasonable health care purpose. It is punitive. It is discriminatory. It is elitist. Abortion is health care and such care should be available regardless of economic means.
“In 2022, the Dobbs decision made America a much more hostile place to reproductive health care. It also increased an emphasis on the role of the state to protect reproductive care. I continue to do everything in my power, working closely with Governor Shapiro, and members of the General Assembly, to fight for the reproductive care assured under the Pennsylvania Constitution.”
