Phillipsburg, N.J.- The historic Phillipsburg Union Station, along with Branching Out Foundation Inc., are partnering to host its first annual Sensitive Santa Event, a highly anticipated gathering that aims to create a joyful and inclusive Christmas experience for individuals with sensory sensitivities. The event takes place on Saturday, December 16th, 10am-12pm. This event is specifically designed to provide a calm and relaxed environment for children and adults who may feel overwhelmed by traditional settings. With careful consideration given to sensory triggers, the Sensitive Santa Event ensures that everyone can enjoy the holiday festivities
stress-free. From gentle lighting to quieter music, this event strives to create a warm and inviting atmosphere where families can connect and celebrate the magic of Christmas in a way that feels comfortable for everyone. The train station has partnered with the Branching Out Foundation to open earlier and make the station privately accessible to people with disabilities. The station is decorated like a winter wonderland for their holiday market. The non-profit Friends of the New Jersey Transportation Heritage Center goal was to make the train station available to all, and their organization saw this as the perfect partnership for those with special needs.
Sensitive Santa is designed to provide a more inclusive and accommodating environment for children of all ages with special needs during the holiday season. The purpose of Sensitive Santa is to ensure that all children, regardless of their abilities or disabilities, have the opportunity to meet and interact with Santa Claus in a way that is comfortable and respectful of their unique needs. By understanding the importance of Sensitive Santa, we can create a more inclusive and accepting society where every child feels valued and celebrated during this magical time of the year.
Vickie Mendes-Branch founded Branching Out Foundation in 2015 after learning that her son had autism and being unable to find any local support services. Branching Out Foundation was formed with the expectation of providing various training opportunities and support initiatives for parents and caregivers whose lives have been impacted by autism.
Also in 2022, to offer more community support to parents in Phillipsburg. Branching Out- Page One Resource Center was opened in Phillipsburg. Page One’s mission is to promote awareness, advocacy, and understanding of autism and related disorders through community-based programs and services.
